Excellent high level crafsmanship by one of the Ishiguro masters. Koretsune is considered one of the best from this illustrious school. The Shodai Masatsune also used this name for a while. Koretsune is the son of the first Masatsune, he became well versed in the Ishiguro style of perfecting designs with Fowl. This design of the Famous Ho’o (Phoenix) and Kiri (paulownia) is a popular theme as it has to do with good luck and being auspicious. The Kiri tree is said to be the only tree the Ho’o will land upon to roost.
Made up of various high quality metals, the design can only be described as gorgeous. One interesting point is that the lid of the box states that this kozuka was once the property of the Asano family which is famous from the 47 ronin story.
