Late 1300s-early 1400s
15 5/16” Cutting edge length
Beautifully mounted wakizashi with a nice hirazukuri blade from the Koto period. The blade is a very nice shaped example from what is probably from the later nanbokucho to early muromachi period. There are well cut grooves on both sides of the blade, and the sugu midare hamon has lots of activity such as sunagashii. The ji is a large grained patter that resembles soshu in some ways.
The mount is a beautiful example of a formal mounting that is usually part of a Dai Sho. The shakudo nanako formal kanagu with gold mons is done very well. The Fuchi, koiguchi, kurikata and kojiri are all done by the same hand. The kozuka is of the same school and same mons, but the nanako is slightly different but still very nice work. This is the high class level of a minor lord or retainer. The tsuba is a shakudo kenjo type which is standard for these types of formal mounts.
A very nice package for someone who would like to own the sword of a higher up samurai.
