NBTHK Tokubetsu Hozon
Sayagaki by Tanobe Michihiro Sensei
27” Cutting edge length
Beautiful sword from the prestigious Nanbokucho period. Classic shape that exudes strength from the wide body and large kissaki. The kissaki is 3 1/2”!!! Kanenaga also known as Kencho is probably the best student of the famous Chogi. In fact, in some cases they say that it is difficult to discern between the two as the level of craftmanship is very high. This blade has the classic hamon of hakomidare which at times becomes the mimigata midare that this school is famous for. Very thick nie lies within the hamon along with activity in abundance such as kinsuji and sunagashii. Tanobe sensei wrote some very detailed remarks in his sayagaki for this blade. A must to see in hand; blades like this are the type that represent such famous makers from this time period.
