T-107 Kokinko Momiji Tsuba

Real Kokinko Tsuba from the Momoyama Period

Very nice solid shakudo tsuba made during the Momoyama period. Tsuba such as these differ than those seen as “maybe “ ko kinko. By looking not only at the quality of the shakudo, but at the theme as well, one can see the difference of what makes a nice Ko kinko tsuba. Well cut in its design on the rich blue black shakudo plate, the wave work alone is very natural, but with the addition of the maple leaves, it takes on a whole new dimension. The theme of maples leaves in the water have a very poetic bushi sense and is seen among high level fittings as a subject in all of the major schools. The shape is very interesting and not of the normal round type seen during this period. This makes us to believe that this tsuba might have been custom ordered. By looking at the tsuba, one can actually see “motion” in the wave pattern. This shows that this is a well cut design, as it has “life” within the design. In very good condition, for serious collectors at an almost too low price for our grand opening!!!
