M-100 Goto Joshin Tool Menuki

Top Goto Masterwork NBTHK Papered (1512-1562)

From the Muromachi period, a set of very high grade and rare menuki. Attributed to Goto Joshin, Joshin was the 3rd mainline master of the famous Goto line and is top level rated amoung all kinko makers. Joshin’s works are greatly sought after as they are usually larger and more aggressively done in their material and design. His is considered one of the best of the mainline Goto. As one can see, the use of very thick gold foil is seen in this design on a deep dark shakudo base. Menuki are very large and the detail work is still fine. Remember that these menuki are from the 1500’s and are still in remarkably great condition. The design of farm implements is a common one for Joshin, for some reason he liked to do tools quite often for his subject matter. Ina custom fitted box and a new NBTHK Hozon Paper.
